I am off..

..in Egypt for a while... I sooo wish I had a diver s camera!
It s a dream underwater marine world here in the Red Sea! After the Great Barrier reef, the Mombasa coastline I really think the marvellous coral reefs of the Red Sea must be the best for snorkeling and diving!

I ll soon be back on the blog with some pictures from this great country. It s truly great to be back close to the desert again, to the gentleness of this country of the Nile, the sea the minarets the sand, the Shisha, samaki, chai and the turcoise Red Sea!

I send you all some lovely sunshine till then!

"You will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten."

The President on Haiti: "The first Waves of our Rescue and Relief workers are on the Ground and at Work.."

I have just discovered the White House Blog and the gripping page in the New York Times with photos of missing people in the earth quake submitted by friends, family members and colleagues. In addition, even social communications media like Facebook have quickly made good use of its now long established international channels and formed a number groups on the search for Haiti victims and for fund raising. The first videoclips on the catastrophy were indeed posted at You Tube.
Raol Castro and Barack Obama are communicating - cooperating - over using Cuban air space for speedy American relief crafts.
Yes, we have come to learn a lot on the painful road in relief, assisting and communication during our Planet´s many disasters. The reporting and relief efforts are increasingly speeded up and effective.
But I just wonder tonight: "Why was there no premonition at all on the upcoming disaster? No seismic activities registered anywhere?"
"If an earthquake were to threaten San Fransisco - how early in advance would its citizens be able to find out and be informed?"

Haiti: The horror of January 13..

Haiti president describes `unimaginable' catastrophe; thousands feared dead - see further: The Miami Herald

Haiti is now facing a “major humanitarian emergency” that would require a concerted international response.

"Haiti sits on a large fault that has caused catastrophic quakes in the past, but this one was described as among the most powerful to hit the region. The earthquake was the worst in the region in more than 200 years and left the country in a shambles, without electricity or phone service, tangling efforts to provide relief to an estimated 3 million people who the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said had been affected by the quake."

These two videoclips  above were quickly spread over the world via Youtube.

Serendipity strikes a home run..

.. when I found these marvellous old pictures by chance - looking for something completely diffrent - on a great website called Vintage Prints that provides public domain antique scientific, naturalist, and other images for you to print or download.
I have been spending hours after hours at this site being greatful to this anonymous enthusiast who collects and saves these timecapsules for us to enjoy. Here are a few I picked for you: (Beware: most silly comments are mine!)

Reminds me of the small hours at one of my favourite pubs.
( I am too smart to mention any name here.)

Vintage makeover. Looks a bit painful. The question : "Is she really worth it?"

" Queen of hearts as judicial official, presiding over the trial of defendant knave-of-hearts  charged with felonious misappropriation and wrongful conversion of tarts.."

 Swaddled twins in Holland.
They did not want them to turn out very crooked in those days long before free drugs and rock-n-roll....

Library reading chairs. How I would love to go vintage! Want one!!

Well thinking of it, I am rapidly heading in the direction..

A potent King of Hearts!
Oh, the ways of symbolic expressions of the passed!

A small step for Man and a great leap towards modern medicine?

Regal finger snaps: Jolly and obese like Santa - and keep the grub coming Joker!
Painting, childrens books.

In the late1940´s style.
Sooo right! And pale. A prelude to the headscarved, eyebrow  arched Audrey-Hepburn-era.

Beautiful vintage botanical print; Gloxinias. From floral world and garden guide (1878)

"The honey dew on thy lip.." Old Valentine card.

Now here is the link. I hope you will enjoy it as I did! Thank you Swivelchair, you anonymous biopharma worker!

Sunday..

..jingle bells and a torch..
Me and sis and Hälge on this sunny Sunday afternoon

A whole cream landscape and the search of a diver's mask

My house is studded impressive with icicles. The heavy snow thunders off the roof at night. I wake up and I think of King Bore bursting out in cold anger..

This is our present Gotland environment right now.

The temperature is more pleasant here in Gotland than in most parts of Sweden - which boasts some unbelievable 35 C degrees below and more in some places. The surrounding Baltic acts like a "heating" instrument here still. But not for long. The ice is now rapidly forming a lid on parts of the Baltic - for the first time in decades.

Long shadows and no wind.

It feels like we are living in midst of a bowl of whipped cream!
Ok! The only thing we are lapping up are the fewrays of sun that occationally penetrates the dark skies. I am now off to the attic to look for my skin-diver's mask and snorkel! It is high time for a break now to take in some sun and  to swim in turquoise waters! This winter threatens to be a long one!

New Years day..

..in Gotland. As beautiful as can be with plenty of snow.
And sunshine. No wind. Nature brings on a very special color palette.

Time to put on the cross country skies.

It feels like we live in some alpine chalet.

Some Christmas trees decorate themselves!
A Happy and Good New Year and a great and promising new decade to you all from Gotland, Sweden!
