I just love strolling around in Georgetown. (Or riding my bike there). We went down for some shopping on Saturday afternoon and listened to outdoor jazz and enjoyed the buzzing and friendly ambiance of this picturesque Washington neighbourhood.. and not to mention all the shops and boutiques! I discovered that they even has a H&M there. (with boring dull clothes I am sorry to say!!)
Georgetown is a bit of Amsterdam and a bit of Stockholm Old Town
and the houses are often San Francisco-style..

Georgetown is often mentioned as "up-scale" and hip with small boutiques, fashionable resturants and a buzzing student life.. Here we pay a Saturday visit to the famous French Bakery to buy bread..Malcolm who lived in Georgetown for five years seems to know everybody around..
Outdoor jazz off M street. And a nice place to enjoy an ice cream and some live jazz..
GEORGETOWN - True, this famously upscale quarter of Washington is unabashedly commercial, a bastion of designer shops, trendy eateries and urbane bars and clubs. It is a less hurried, less congested and more quietly textured version of the capital.
Georgetown is its oldest neighborhood.. It is a definitive getaway town — actually the oldest Washington, D.C. neighborhood, northwest of the city. It’s historic, picturesque, upscale, lively and filled with great shopping, dining and sightseeing opportunities. No malls — just great storefront shopping on a number of streets.
Lots of famous people lives - and lived - in Georgetown. Here is a photo I found of
Jackie Kennedy relaxing in her Georgetown home.
First, Georgetown was a slave port. Later, it was a thriving center of black life. Today, it's a virtually all-white enclave. Why?
But let´s not forget: there were neither blacks nor whites in Georgetown -- then known as Tahoga -- before British settlers came ashore around 1696. It was a peaceful village inhabited by the Nacotchanke Indians. Straightforward facts and precise dates of Georgetown history are difficult to establish; much of the subject is undocumented, and accounts differ.
